A PART OF AMERICA'S GREEN TEAM

Digital Dolphin is proud to be a part of America's efforts in supporting Green Programs.  Digital Dolphin takes pride in our efforts to protect our nations precious resources.  As a leading supplier of imaging and Office Supplies in the government and prime contractor marketplaces Digital Dolphin has a hands approach to working with Green Programs.

By some estimates, nearly eight ink and toner cartridges are thrown away in the U.S. every second.

According to industry sources, 98% of ink jet cartridges end up in the solid waste stream.  Through efforts of the "GREEN TEAM" and others this figure will decrease.

Industry analysts estimate that a spent ink and toner cartridge can be reused between four and seven times.

Each laser printer cartridge, on average, consists of approximately 2 ½ pounds of plastic – primarily acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) – along with steel, aluminum and rubber.  Manufacturing each printer cartridge requires approximately three quarts of petroleum to power the manufacturing process that converts oil and natural gas to plastic. Each cartridge contains petroleum as “embedded” energy (i.e. the fuel value of the plastic itself). It takes the energy equivalent of approximately one-half gallon of oil to make one 2 ½ pound cartridge.

Recycling

At Digital Dolphin Supplies we are committed to recycling and saving the environment. Every year over 400 million toner cartridges and inkjet cartridges, with a weight of 200 million pounds, are sent to the land fills. It takes approximately 3 quarts of oil to produce a cartridge. Recycling all cartridges would save about 300 million gallons of oil annually. It's a function of supply and demand and with oil demand high, our gasoline prices are close to $3.00 per gallon. It's our choice to take a little extra effort to keep our environment clean and our costs down. We can have the land fill picture on the left, with toner cartridges that will take thousands of years to decompose, or the green valleys on the right. Recycling also makes economic sense. Most schools have setup toner and cartridge recycling programs to fund their computer labs. We are proud that we work with many of these recyclers for a cleaner environment.

Please check with the schools in your community to contribute to their recycling effort or setup your company's own recycling effort by contacting one of the organizations below. We have researched the recycling companies and have listed the best ones for you. They are divided into Charities and Recyclers. You can also check with your city and join their recycling programs. All of the companies below will pay shipping and most provide shipping boxes. The charity organizations ask that you donate your cartridges, cell phones, pda and laptops.
